I’ve driven hybrids before, but nothing could’ve prepared me for the Porsche Panamera 4S E, Hybrid. The moment I fired it up and eased it out of the hotel car park tucked between the winding roads of the Lenne Mountains, I knew I wasn’t in an average plug, in hybrid. This was something else. A machine engineered not only to cut emissions and save fuel, but to go fast, feel luxurious, and stir something deep within the driver’s core.

That morning, dew still clung to the leaves, and the sky hovered somewhere between mist and sunlight. It was perfect. A mountain playground made of twisting tarmac and sweeping bends, a place where hybrids usually come to feel apologetic. But the Panamera wasn’t sorry for anything. In fact, it seemed to crave altitude, curves, and the pressure of a heavy right foot.

A Silent Beast: Driving on Electric Through the Pines

With a full battery, the Panamera 4S E, Hybrid slipped into motion silently. That initial stretch from Altenhundem to Bilstein was taken entirely on electric power. It felt like piloting a grand tourer spaceship , eerily quiet, effortlessly smooth, and yet clearly very aware of the 2.3 tons beneath.

The 25.9 kWh battery is no token hybrid unit. Porsche has packed it with real, world capability. In the cool mountain air, the car showed a true EV range just shy of 80 km, even with a spirited driving style. The electric motor , 190 hp strong , doesn’t just help with eco, credentials. It launches the Panamera with enough urgency to shame many sports cars.

The narrow roads of Lennestadt encouraged a light foot at first. But even within those limits, it was clear that this car wasn’t just born to coast. It wanted to run. Hard.

Power Meets Elegance: Where the V6 Wakes Up

After about 60 kilometers of quiet grace, I flicked the driving mode to “Sport Plus” just as I crossed the crest near the Hohe Bracht peak. The combustion engine , a twin, turbocharged 2.9, litre V6 , came alive with a low bark, seamlessly joining forces with the electric motor. There was no jerk, no lag, just a sudden transformation in character.

The numbers sound clinical on paper: 544 horsepower combined output, 750 Nm of torque. But behind the wheel, it’s pure drama. The 8, speed PDK gearbox downshifted with urgency, the revs climbed in a smooth but savage arc, and then , boom , the Panamera launched itself down the mountain descent like it had something to prove.

Corners approached fast, but the active suspension and rear, axle steering made the whole process feel eerily composed. No body roll. No uncertainty. It rotated in a way that made it feel smaller and lighter than it has any right to.

That Suspension , Defying Physics on Lenne’s Broken Roads

What really blew me away, though, was the suspension. Porsche’s new active chassis setup, using air springs and hydraulic roll control powered by the 400V electrical system, is wizardry. Full stop.

On fast, uneven sections, it felt like the Panamera was hovering , gliding over patchy asphalt without sacrificing grip. The suspension constantly adjusted, adapting with almost telepathic foresight. It doesn’t just smooth out the ride. It actively manages how the car behaves under load , diving under braking, rising slightly under throttle, leaning in like a motorbike through corners. And every one of these movements is subtle, precise, and calibrated to keep the cabin serene while giving the tires the best chance to bite.

Driving it hard down a switchback near Elspe, I deliberately braked late into a corner. The nose dipped ever so slightly. Mid, corner, the inner body leaned in just a tad , just like you would on a bike. And when I throttled out, the Panamera leveled itself again, ready for the next apex. It’s hard to believe such mass can dance like this. And yet, here it was, waltzing down the Lenne ridges like a prima ballerina in a tuxedo.

Cockpit Experience: A 911’s Soul, A Limousine’s Comfort

Inside, it feels like the Panamera is trying to split the difference between the 911 and a Cayenne , and succeeding. The steering wheel is familiar: the same rotary drive mode switch, the same perfect thickness. Behind it, screens offer all the info you could want, but never in an overwhelming way.

The center console has been decluttered. Porsche’s new touchscreen setup is fast, sharp, and responsive. But more importantly, the physical controls that matter , drive mode selector, gear lever, climate knobs , are exactly where you want them. I didn’t have to think twice even while hurtling down a twisty stretch near Grevenbrück.

Seats? Hugely supportive. Sound insulation? Superb. And with the adaptive air suspension working its magic, long, distance comfort is absolute. I could genuinely see myself crossing continents in this car , and enjoying every meter.

Performance Numbers , Not Just for Show

Real World Verdict: What It’s Like to Live With

The Porsche Panamera 4S E, Hybrid isn’t pretending to be a green car for the sake of headlines. It’s a Porsche first , sharp, engaging, precise , that just happens to come with a plug and a generous electric range. It’s quiet when you want serenity, brutal when you want speed, and comfortable all the time.

On the mountain roads around the Lennegebirge, it felt right at home. Not once did it shy away from a challenge, not once did I wish for more power, or better handling, or softer comfort. It nailed all of it , every aspect of modern grand touring.

Charging back at the hotel with 11 kW AC was quick and painless. The fact that it can do the entire first leg of a trip on electricity makes it a very usable daily machine, not just a weekend weapon.

Conclusion: The Fast Lane, Reimagined

The Panamera 4S E, Hybrid is a quiet revolution. It doesn’t shout about its hybrid credentials. It doesn’t beg for attention. It just performs , brilliantly. Whether carving through the Lenne Mountains or cruising on the Autobahn, it proves that electrification doesn’t have to dull the thrill. In fact, it can enhance it.

For drivers who want performance with brains, comfort with control, and luxury with real dynamic soul, this Porsche makes a very loud, very refined statement. And it does so at 290 km/h , in silence if you like.

How far can the Panamera 4S E, Hybrid drive on electric power alone?

Up to 88 kilometers WLTP. In real, world mountain conditions, I saw around 78, 80 km.

Does the Panamera 4S E hybrid system feel intrusive?

Not at all. It’s seamless. The switch between EV and combustion modes is almost imperceptible.

How does Panamera 4S E compare to the standard Panamera in performance?

It’s quicker than most non, Turbo Panamera variants thanks to instant electric torque. The 0, 100 time of 3.5 seconds speaks for itself.
